PRMC welcomes home one of their own after life-threatening virus

Yesterday afternoon, the staff at Paris Regional Medical Center lined the street to welcome home one of their own.

Jeannie Thompson, an EKG Tech who had worked at PRMC for 23 years, had her world turned upside down on January 26th and found herself fighting for her life.

“She is a very healthy woman,” said her daughter Lindsay Fisher, “she ran five to six days a week at least 2-3 miles a day.”

After going for a run on Tuesday afternoon, Jeannie started to feel unwell the following day and by Thursday was on a ventilator at the very hospital she had worked at for decades.

“She had a virus that knocked her immune system down, yet tested negative for the flu,” said Lindsay.

After further testing, doctors found Jeannie has MRSA pneumonia; which is resistant to some antibiotics and very contagious.

“Paris Regional Medical Center did everything right and started her on the appropriate antibiotics immediately before she was transported to Dallas.”

But her condition got worse.

“We weren’t’ given a lot of hope in the beginning,” said Lindsay. “She had abscesses in her lungs  and had her middle right lobe and lower left lobe removed.”

However, Jeannie fought hard and yesterday was released to come home.

“She still gets out of breath and just walking and talking again will take some time but luckily she doesn’t require any oxygen.”

Although Jeannie is not able to return to work yet, she is taking it one day at a time and hopes to return if she is able.

“Faith in God throughout this whole ordeal is what got us through,” said Lindsay.
