A boating accident on Pat Mayse Lake Saturday evening could have had a much more serious outcome after a bass boat collided with a pontoon carrying 11 people.
Despite the impact, everyone involved escaped serious injury, with only a few minor injuries reported.
Pedro Friessen, who said he was aboard the pontoon at the time of the accident, shared on social media that the pontoon was stationary when the bass boat struck it from the side.
According to Friessen, a 17-year-old was trapped for a period of time following the collision, while a 7-year-old suffered a minor concussion.
The 7-year-old was transported to a Dallas hospital for evaluation and was released a short time later.
“Everyone is home and safe now, praise the Lord,” Friessen shared. “Also, the couple that were in the bass boat seemed to be OK as well. It could’ve been so much worse. We just thank all the people that were involved helping us. May God get all the glory and honor.”
Personnel from the Powderly Volunteer Fire Department, Paris Fire Department, Lamar County Emergency Management, Fire Marshal’s Office, Chicota Volunteer Fire Department, Powderly Volunteer Fire Department, and Paris EMS all responded to the scene.
