Locals taken back in time as the old Lamar Theatre is revealed during construction

As the metal façade came down off the old Lamar Theatre in downtown Paris earlier this week, many locals were excited to see what remained of the once-booming movie house.

It’s been decades since the public has seen what was left of the theatre behind the metal that covered the front and sides of the building.

However, that all change Monday as constructions crews peeled back the layers bringing back memories for some residents who once saw movies at the theatre.

Many were particularly excited to see an old ‘Coca-Cola’ sign on the side of the building and another that reads, “LAMAR THEATRE Movies The Whole Family Can Enjoy”.

According to cinematreasures.com, The Lamar Theater was a Claude Musseleman Theater built in 1929 before closing in 1963.

Musseleman also once owned The Grand Theatre, also in downtown Paris, among many others in northeast Texas.

Impact Church took ownership of the building, and the two next to it, in May and started renovations in August with plans to have the new church building complete by January 2020.
