A man driving at a high rate of speed with a child in the vehicle, later found to be intoxicated, was arrested on Monday after he hit a patrol unit that parked in a lane of traffic with all its emergency lighting activated.
Around 8:22 p.m., 25-year old Alex Carson Demato hit the patrol unit in the 2100 block of Bonham Street, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
At the time of the accident, Demato had a young child with him, who was in a safety seat but not secured properly.
The child was transported to Paris Regional Health by Paris EMS, evaluated by hospital staff, and then released to another family member.
After testing, Demato was taken to a medical facility where blood was drawn after obtaining a search warrant.
Demato was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15 years of age in a vehicle, a felony.
