Following their impressive upset road win at Midlothian Heritage, the Paris Wildcats rose to the tenth spot overall in Class 4A, Division I on the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football online poll. The Wildcats (3-1) cracked the top-10 by virtue of their 28-14 win in the Jaguars’ home stadium, which came a week after Paris lost at home to Pleasant Grove. The No. 2-ranked Hawks, who have won the state championship in Class 4A, Division II two of the last three years, handed Paris a 35-7 loss in Wildcat Stadium.
District foe Argyle remained atop the online poll, followed in order by Lampasas, Dumas, Waco La Vega, Port Lavaca Calhoun, Corpus Christi Calallen, Canyon, Melissa, and Springtown. The top-ranked Eagles’ last outing was a 35-7 home win over Waco La Vega, while fellow district opponent and No. 8-ranked Melissa edged Stephenville 65-58 at home in a shootout.
To open district play, the Wildcats will travel to Melissa to face the Cardinals in a top-10 showdown at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cardinal Stadium.
Melissa (4-0) has already notched quality wins over Celina, Sunnyvale, Pottsboro, and Stephenville, with all but the last win coming by a margin of at least 12 points. Meanwhile, Paris has claimed victory over Metro Christian Academy of Oklahoma, Celina, and Midlothian Heritage. The only single-digit victory came against Celina at home by a final score of 10-7 in overtime.
