COMMERCE – For the first time in program history in Division II, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the country in the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) rankings. The Lions are also ranked No. 4 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association rankings.
This is the second time in school history during its time in NCAA Division II that a program has been ranked No. 1 in the country, joining the Lion Football program’s run to end the 2017 season and beginning of the 2018 season, following the 2017 National Championship.
A&M-Commerce jumped a spot in the D2SIDA rankings and received 8 of the 15 first-place votes. The Lions are 22-2 on the season and have won nine straight games. In the WBCA poll, the Lions rose three spots to jump into the top four. A&M-Commerce has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the WBCA rankings.
The Lions are making a push for their third straight Lone Star Conference title and can do so by winning the remaining three regular-season games, beginning with Texas Woman’s on Tuesday night in the Field House at 5:30 p.m.
