The Honey Grove Warriors is “all the buzz” on the Texas High School Football scene as the team how now outscored their opponents 289-0; the only school in Texas to not allow a point.
“This is a special team,” said Scotty Mahan, owner of Tomahawk Sports Media and sports reported with Honey Grove Athletics. “Not only because they are yet to give up a score in five games, but there’s so much more about this team that’s not being talked about.”
Mahan is a lifelong resident of Honey Grove and avid Honey Grove Warriors fan whose son, Brody, plays on the team.
“These boys have played football together since kindergarten and don’t have the luxury of transfers. Our Defensive Coordinator has been battling cancer and even though coaching staff tried to run them off every day at workouts over the summer, every single one of them came back.”
Not only are the the childhood friends a “team,” but they consider each other family.
“Many of our players are apart of the national Beta Club. A majority of them excel academically. If we have an event in the community, more than likely you will see multiple football players at the event serving our community. Almost every week the coaching staff cook a dinner for the boys and without a doubt, these boys would die for each other and so would us parents. The whole community is behind them and believes in them.”
While the team may only be five games into the season, their football numbers are impressive.
“81 yards, 3 yards, 87 yards, 17 yards, and -61 yards, that’s how many yards of offense our opponents have had each game.”
Currently rank 12th in the Class 2A, Division 1, the Honey Grove Warriors will face 4th ranked Cooper Bulldogs on Oct. 20, 2023, in Honey Grove, in a game that’s expected to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
