Mildred Irene Binnion Stanley, 98, of Paris, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Legend Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 4th, at McDonald Cemetery with Rev. Mark Sanders, officiating. A formal visitation is not scheduled.

Mrs. Stanley, the daughter of Emory Augustus & Callie Ann Hulsey Barham, was born Sept. 9, 1920, in the Broadway Community of Lamar County.

Mildred walked three miles to and from the Midway School where she graduated second in her class in 1937. Times were hard, and she wasn’t able to attend college, so she answered an ad in the Dallas Morning News for a nanny. In 1938, when she was told she had the job she boarded a bus and headed for Dallas. This was new for a woman who had never been out of Lamar County. She got off the bus at Gaston & Live Oak, went into a drug store and asked the clerk to call Mrs. Norton to come to get her. She worked for the Norton’s for three years. Upon returning to Paris she worked at Perkins Brothers, now Belk, downtown. It was at Perkins that she was introduced to Joe Binnion. She was smitten with him and after two weeks they went to Hugo, OK, during Mildred’s lunch break, and were married in July 1943. Joe went to the military and was sent overseas. Their son Randy was born in Aug. 1944. Mildred made nine dollars a week popping popcorn on the Red Front. She owned a washateria on Austin Street, and when Joe came home from service they operated the washateria and had a plumbing business. Later she worked two years at Westinghouse before beginning work at Hollywood Vasarette where she worked thirteen years before retiring. A funny story Mildred always told was that she bought some goats to clean a lot, and she’d haul them in her car. Once she looked in the mirror and had a goat on each side of her. Mildred owned Binnion Trailer Park and numerous rental properties. She was a generous person and a loving individual.

She was a member of Hillcrest Missionary Baptist Church for almost forty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Joe Binnion in 1966, second husband, Raymond Stanley in 2001, a step-son, Charles Stanley and her brother, Milford Barham.

Survivors include her son, Randy Binnion & wife Jane of Pattonville, grandchildren; Paul Binnion of Yantis and LeAnn Watson of Deport, great grandchildren; Bradlee Watson & wife Brittnee of Blossom, Brett Watson & wife Courtney of Pattonville, Brooks Binnion & Kyla Simmons of Rockwall, Brenna Binnion & Ty Woodruff of Wolfe City, and Isabella Tompkins of Deport, great great grandchildren; Camdyn Watson, Baylon Watson, Callaway Watson, Brix Dred Watson, Copelynn King and Lex Woodruff, step-children; Edna Phelps & husband David of New Boston, Paula Speir & husband Andy of Bogata, and Paula McLemore of Baton Rouge, LA, step-daughter-in-law, Phillis Stanley of Avery, and her best friend, Debbie Kammer, along with several nieces & nephews, a number of step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and a host of friends.
