After two fires in the last few months, Hickory Bar-B-Q in Bonham announced Tuesday it will not be reopening, closing its doors after 48-years in business.
“We would like to thank our dear customers for the care and concern expressed to us over the past few months. Many have asked, and it is time to say, we will not be reopening The Hickory Bar-B-Q. This is certainly not the way we would have chosen to close our 48 year-old business. We are deeply saddened,” said the Blevins family.
On Jan. 6, 2024, the restaurant closed following a structure fire that firefighters were able to contain to the kitchen area only with minimal damage.
However, shortly before 7 a.m. on Apr. 4, 2024, firefighters responded to a second structure fire at Hickory Bar-B-Q, causing even more damage to the building.
Many who dined at the beloved restaurant over the past almost 50 decades took to social media, sharing their sadness at the news.
“This is so sad! Not the news any of us wanted to hear, for sure! Our hearts are saddened for sure! Thank you for the 48 years that you served our community! I know this could not have been an easy decision for your family! May God Bless you and your family in the years to come.”
“You will be missed. Beyond incredible food! It was one of my regular weekday pick-up food when I didn’t want to cook. Your smoked meat was fantastic but your side of Pinto Beans was ridiculously awesome! Dang! I hate to see you go.”
“So sorry to hear this news. We have loved getting to know you and all your employees over the years. We will have our memories of our family and friends eating your fantastic bbq. Thank you for your service to Fannin County the last 48 years. And good luck to you, your family, and your employees.”
“It is with grateful hearts that we thank you, our friends, for your patronage over the years. You have not only been customers, but family. We’ve watched your children grow up; we’ve mourned with you over the death of your loved ones. Through all of life’s up and downs, a little BBQ, peach cobbler, and sweet tea have made things slightly easier. It has been an honor to be a part of your lives. We give thanks to our good, good God for the many memories we share. May God richly bless you and your families.”
