Melba Jo Sikes, 83, of Quitman, formerly of Paris, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her home.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m.
Mrs. Sikes, the daughter of Jesse E. Jones & Ida B. Flemming Jones, was born May 3, 1940, in Biardstown, TX.
She graduated from Delmar High School at the top of her class. Her career with Munsingwear-Vassarette spanned a number of years before her job was moved. Melba then went to work at Merico, retiring from the plant when it was Sara Lee, following many years service to the company.
On July 25, 1959, she married Henry Jackson “Jackie” Sikes, Sr., building 46 years of family and memories before his death on January 10, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, John Jones, Lucille Smith, Helen King, Bobbie Licudan, and Geneva Hanley.
Survivors include three children, Henry Sikes, Jr. (Jaxie), Tommy Sikes (Jennifer), and Dorothy McKinnon (Jim), grandchildren, Jennifer Sikes (Raymond), Hannah Bailey, Rachel Bailey, Tyler Brown (Marina), Jackson Sikes, Emma Sikes, Cosondra Bridges (Colby), and Lauren Neighbors (Tanner), thirteen great grandchildren, and one brother, James Jones (Georgia) along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
