As Lamar County Human Resources Council, Inc. (LCHRC) gets set to launch its new program Horizon House Transitional Shelter, the organization is seeking donations for much-needed supplies.
“We are so proud to be managing Horizon House, a Transitional Shelter,” said executive director Shelly Braziel. “It is our goal to provide each client with the tools they need to be successful after they leave us.”
In July, the board of directors of New Hope Center of Paris entered into discussions with LCHRC, along with several funders to develop new programming that would be easier funded and better for the community.
As a result, the New Hope Board of Directors made the decision that was best for its clients and the community as a whole, which was to dissolve and allow LCHRC to operate a Transitional Shelter. This decision was made to remove barriers that prevented the New Hope Center from being eligible for state and federal funds. LCHRC’s Board of Directors voted in favor of developing and implementing new programming with a similar transitional model thus Horizon House Transitional Center was formed.
“Horizon House relies on local donations to achieve that goal,” said Braziel. “Our new success programming will begin in two weeks, but in order to do that we must raise the funds needed to purchase the educational materials for each client.”
The success program includes addiction programming, self-confidence classes, life skills lessons, daily gratitude Journaling, anger management class, & a Healthy Boundaries course.
“Sponsorship of all materials a client needs for the program costs $100. Typically we have between 25 to 30 clients living at Horizon House, so in order for everyone to receive their program materials we need to raise $3000.”
