Amidst all the recommendations from government officials on the importance of self social distancing during the OVID-19 pandemic, Lamar County has scored a D for their efforts.
The ‘Social Distancing Scoreboard’ was developed by a company known as Unacast. The scoring is based on GPS location data and was created to measure and understand the efficacy of social distancing initiatives at the local levels.
According to their data, Lamar County is rated at a D meaning that citizens are still socializing rather than distancing themselves for a short while.
A decrease greater than 40 percent is an A grade, 30-40 percent is a B, 20-30 percent is a C, 10-20 percent is a D, and under 10 percent is an F.
Surprisingly, while the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been recorded in New York, the state is rated among the top 5 states for social distancing. Idaho, North and South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming are among the bottom 5 states.
Texas, as a whole, received a B rating.
Results are calculated by monitoring “tens of millions of anonymous mobile phones and their interactions with each other each day,” according to the company.
