PRMC closes south campus doors to the public

Over the past several months the Paris Regional Medical Center Administrative Team has been evaluating the future of what is known as the “South Campus” hospital facility.

Because of the connection many in the community feel to the 50-year-old building, the Administrative Team conducted an exhaustive review of options for the facility. As all current inpatient care is provided at the North Campus facility, the Administrative Team made the difficult decision to cease the delivery of healthcare services at the South Campus location effective June 1, 2018.

“There simply was not a feasible way to provide healthcare services in a meaningful and ongoing way at two different and older facility locations.” Steve Hyde, CEO Paris Regional Medical Center.

All inpatient services have transitioned to Paris Regional Medical Center’s North campus on DeShong Drive. However, there remain ongoing outpatient services close to the South Campus including PRMC Wound Care Center and PRMC Outpatient Rehab Center.

In May 2017, the PRMC Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatric unit closed at the South Campus. Then in May of this year, the LTACH Dubuis unit that leased
space in the South Campus building, decided to end their services locally, thus bringing an end to all patient care services at the South Campus.

“We had determined that when the LTACH unit moved it would be the right time to effectively close the building to the public. Security teams will remain in place to ensure the safety of the campus always,” Steve Hyde, CEO.

Paris Regional’s Administrative Team understand the rich history and personal importance of the South Campus building to many in our community, and because of that, have already begun discussions with others in our city who might be interested in utilizing the location in the future.

Administration’s preference would be to see the facility continue to fulfill the purpose as set forth by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word to help those in need.

“We at PRMC have a tremendous legacy to live up to. Countless caregivers served their friends and neighbors compassionately at the South Campus. It is our responsibility to carry that legacy of care forward for decades to come,” Steve Hyde, CEO.
