Paris police responded to the 4000 block of Old Clarksville Rd at 8:19 a.m., Friday June 5. Officers located and observed a male leaning into and taking items from a vehicle with a broken window. He was detained and the investigation led officers to arrest 34-year old Anthony Jabari Akens, of Paris. Akens gave the officers a false name and assaulted one of the officers. He was charged with assault on a public servant, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, burglary of a vehicle, resisting arrest, fraud by possessing more than 10 items of identifying information, failing to identify as a fugitive, and a parole warrant out of California. Akens was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Officers later arrested 26-year old Rashad Shaquoy Wallace, of Paris, at 2:08 p.m. on June 5, in the 1100 block of Fitzhugh Ave on a Lamar County warrant charging him with continuous violence against the family. Wallace was observed driving a vehicle and was known by the officer that he had the warrant outstanding. Wallace was later placed in the Lamar County Jail.
Paris police stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of NE 25th St at 10:42 p.m. Friday night for a defective brake light. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the inside of the vehicle. Officers located over nine ounces of marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Ladretcus Dshawn Gray, 30, of Paris, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana of more than four ounces but less than five pounds. He was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Just before midnight on Friday, Paris officers arrested 19-year old Jaylen Jamaal Henderson, of Paris. Henderson was observed driving at an excessive speed on SE 33rd St. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, he attempted to elude the officer by making several quick turns and turning off the headlights of the vehicle. The vehicle finally stopped in the 2700 block of Lamar Ave where officers caught up to him. Henderson was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
Paris police stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of NE 12th St at 10:37 a.m., Saturday June 6, for an expired registration violation. The driver, identified as 36-year old Nicholas Don Paul Johnson, of Bogata, Texas, was found to be in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. He was arrested and later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
At 1:49 p.m. later that day, Paris police stopped a vehicle in the 10 block of Pine Bluff St for a traffic violation. The officer smelled the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. During the investigation, officers located cocaine inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Jimmy Dean Brown, 63, of Paris, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was booked and placed in jail.
Paris police stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of NW 4th St at 10:02 a.m., Sunday June 7, for an expired registration. The officer observed the driver throw an object from the vehicle before stopping. During the investigation, the driver, Shan Carlyle Bryant, 51, of Roxton, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. She was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She was later placed in the Lamar County Jail.
Christina Michelle Lovan, 29, of Paris, was stopped in the 1500 block of Clarksville St at 10:55 a.m. on Sunday after the officer observed the passenger not be wearing a seatbelt. Lovan was later found to have given the officer a false name. She was found to have two outstanding warrants. One warrant out of Johnson County, Texas charging her with possession of a controlled substance and the other was out of Henderson County, Texas charging her with possession of a dangerous drug. Lovan was later transferred to the Lamar County jail.
Later that afternoon, at 5:06 p.m., an officer observed a pedestrian crossing the 100 block of Pine Bluff St and not using a crosswalk. The pedestrian was nearly struck by a passing vehicle. When the officer made contact with the pedestrian, they were identified as 48-year old Jackie Edward Vanderburg, Jr, of Lamar County, the officer observed Vanderburg attempting to destroy a small baggie of synthetic marijuana. When Vanderburg was being arrested, he resisted arrest. He was charged with tampering with evidence with the intent to impair along with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He was later placed in the Lamar County Jail.
Paris police responded to 246 calls for service and arrested 21 people over the weekend ending at midnight on June 7, 2020.
