On Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10:15 a.m. the City of Paris will be conducting a tax sale of 38 properties at the Lamar County Courthouse.

This will be the initial auction of 1 tract, the Westgate Apartments tract.

This tract is approximately 8 acres in size, located at 635 NW 7th St in Paris, and is listed by the Lamar County Appraisal District as Property No. 12932.  The value of this property is appraised at $486,830, but the opening bid is currently estimated to be $170,500.

Additionally, 37 tax foreclosed properties will be offered for public re-sale.

“These properties have previously been put up for sale but no-one purchased them,” said Tracy Pounders, the property tax lawyer for the City of Paris, “and it’s time for them to be sold.  Any reasonable bid will be considered.”

These properties usually sell at bargain prices.  Typically the properties are appraised at up to several thousand dollars each, but recently many have been selling for about $250-$1,000 each, and many of the properties auctioned off on Jan. 7 will go for less.

“These properties haven’t generated any tax revenue for the Paris community for a long time,” said Robert Talley, Code Enforcement Supervisor. “If we can get them into the hands of responsible, tax-paying citizens, it is worth the effort.”

“The sale of these tax properties is giving the Paris community a real chance to give new life to our neighborhoods,” added Talley. “Properties that were once places for dumping, high weeds and crime can again become homes for families, places of worship, and community gathering places.  Opportunities like these, on this scale, are rare.”

A list of the 38 properties coming up for sale is available on TracyPounders’ website www.PoundersLaw.com under the “Tax Sales” tab, or you can email to Sales@PoundersLaw.com.

“Any taxpayer interested in a property on that list will be given prompt and courteous attention,” said Ponders.
