SCAM ALERT: Reno Police Department warns residents of phone scam

The Reno Police Department is warning residents of yet another phone scam making the rounds.

The department posted to their Facebook page yesterday afternoon stating:

It has been reported to the Reno Police Department that a phone scam is active stating that they are “US Legal” and the recipient of the call has a warrant for their arrest. The recipient is given the non-emergency phone number for the police department, 903-785-1744, for confirmation. THIS IS A SCAM.

The Reno Police Department has no affiliation with US Legal and does not operate in this manner.

Reno Police Department has also received calls from citizens that have been contacted by telephone and the caller claims to be with the IRS. This is also a scam.

It is never a good idea to give personal or financial information to anyone over the telephone. As always, feel free to contact the Reno Police Department if you have concerns over these types of calls.
