Whole peaches, nectarines, and plums distributed nationwide by HMC Farms are being recalled due to Listeria concerns.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been 11 illnesses, 10 hospitalizations, and one death connected to the recalled fruit.
The fruit is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled products were sold in bags branded “HMC Farms” and “Signature Farms” with a “6359” sticker.
They were also sold as individual fruit with a sticker that has “USA-E-U” and a number:
- Yellow peach: 4044 or 4038
- White peach: 4401
- Yellow nectarine: 4036 or 4378
- White nectarine: 3035
- Red plum: 4042
- Black plum: 4040
The peaches, plums and nectarines were sold in retail stores between May 1 and November 15, 2022 and between May 1 and November 15, 2023.
This recall includes only conventionally grown fruit – no organic fruit is being recalled. Peaches, plums, and nectarines currently available for sale at retail stores are not included in this recall.
