On Jan. 16, Officers went to the 200 block of SE 13th Street to serve and outstanding warrant on Leeandra Aynea Morris (21). It was confirmed that Morris was at the residence by a family member. When the officer made contact with Morris and informed her of the warrant, she began resisting arrest by swinging her arms at the officer in an attempt to resist handcuffing. During this time, Morris struck a family member in the face and mouth, causing them injury. Morris continued to resist, kicking the officer in the torso, but was eventually subdued and handcuffed. She was charged with the original warrant of Assault to a Family Member, Resisting Arrest, and a secondary Assault of a Family Member for the injuries to the family member during the arrest. She was transported to the Police Department and booked.
On Jan. 16, the department received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 3200 block of Graham St. The victim was at the location playing basketball and had left his keys in his vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Caravan. While the owner was occupied, an unknown suspect took the vehicle without permission. A witness in the area, who is known to the victim, gave a suspect description of an individual he claimed to have seen enter the vehicle. The vehicle was entered in the National Database as stolen and the Regional Auto Theft Task Force was notified. The case remains under investigation.
On Jan. 16, an officer arrested Kerry Yates (18) on an outstanding warrant for Deadly Conduct, Discharging a Firearm, a Felony. In the 100 block of W. Austin St. Yates was known to the officer, who was aware of the outstanding warrant. Yates was taken into custody without incident.
Officers made 11 traffic stops, 5 adult arrest, and answered 122 calls for service for this reporting period.
