On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Paris Fire Department presented trophies to 24 fourth-grade students from eight Lamar County schools who participated in the Annual Fire Safety Poster Contest.
The contest is held each October during Fire Safety Month.
The awards were for the top three posters submitted at each school as judged by Paris Firefighters.
The contest calls for fourth graders to submit posters about fire safety, which are evaluated based on originality, clarity, neatness, and content.
Small groups of firefighters selected three posters from each school, and the entire Paris Fire Department staff then voted on those selections. The student’s names were concealed during voting.
The poster made by Blossom Elementary student Lincoln Oats received the most votes and was named the overall winner. Oats’ poster included drawings, attached items like an actual smoke detector, and short reminders like “Stop, Drop, and Roll” and “Plan an escape route.”
Semi-finalists were Braelynn Pool, Maks Yosten, and Oliver Estrada from Justiss Elementary School; Karsen Lewis, Chevy Chandler, and Lillian Murphy students at Deport Elementary School; Ethan Holmes, Lincoln Miller, and Hadley Schott from Trinity Christian Academy; Carter Page, Olivia Young, and Jaxon Cole from Aaron Parker Elementary School; Gabriel Sanchez, Evelyn Thomas and Amelia Decker from Aikin Elementary School; Lincoln Oats, Averi McKinney, and Avery Walker from Blossom Elementary School; Benson Schulz, Austin McKenzie, and Creed Horn from Chisum Elementary School; and Clara Graves, Mila Bryan, and Ellie Harris from North Lamar Intermediate School.
