Jax Crossland, who has been growing his mullet since he was a year old, has been named USA Kids Mullet Champion.
“I think we all screamed for like 10 minutes,” said his mom Zoie Shepard. “The excitement in our house is real. We couldn’t be more proud.”
The eight-year-old from Celeste, Texas, saw an overwhelming amount of support from northeast Texas after being named a Top 10 Finalist earlier this month.
The competition, based on a public vote, saw Jaxon jump ahead by over 2,500 in the last week ultimately claiming him the title.
“I am humbled by the amount of support all y’all have given us. High school friends I haven’t seen in 10 years, old coworkers, old teachers…the amount of support is unreal. I’m blessed to know our child has touched y’all’s lives enough to continue to share and vote!! And we couldn’t be more thankful to the USA Mullet Championships for celebrating not only Jax but all these boys for something that makes them different.”
So, what does he plan on doing with the $500 cash prize? “He’s really really wanted a PS5 and said if he won that’s what he would get.”
“He is over the moon. The first thing he said is ‘I’m never cutting my curls now’ and that he can’t give out autographs yet because he doesn’t know cursive,” laughed Zoie.
