As news of the dangerous effects of vaping continues to sweep the nation, many schools and ISD’s are becoming more proactive in warning students of not only the side effects but helping them quit altogether.
However, like most schools, there are places where cameras don’t reach, and those looking for a quick puff can always find a ‘secret’ spot.
In an effort to eliminate vaping on campus completely, North Lamar ISD is looking to test drive the Halo Vape Sensors on their high school campus.
“HALO IOT Smart Sensor is a multi-sensor capable of detecting vape, smoke, THC, and sound abnormalities like shouting in areas a camera cannot be placed. Additional sensors give HALO the ability to monitor air quality for temperature, humidity, hazardous chemicals, and more!” said the device’s website.
”Our administrative team can now monitor areas where security cameras are not allowed. We are hopeful this will help deter our students from vaping,” said North Lamar ISD Police Chief Mike Boaz.
Boaz said that the trial run of how well the devices will work is set to begin in the coming weeks.
“I’ve had a lot of other schools in the county call me with interest in the device, and hopefully, it will work great so we can then start placing them throughout all our campus’,” said Boaz.
The end game is to encourage students not to vape and with the technology that is incorporated into the device, it appears to be worth its weight in gold for schools across the country that are already using them.
