Lamar County Sheriff’s Office deputies made an arrest in relation to an Aug 11 robbery. Fredrick Lee Whorton of Red River County was arrested after deputies executed a warrant for his alleged robbery of $7,000 in cash and tobacco products from the Deport Star Mart.
Deputies had originally responded to an alarm call at the Deport Star Mart, 331 South Main St. in Aug, when they found that someone had forcibly made entry to the store.
They determined with the help of store employees that over $3,000 in tobacco products and over $4,000 in cash had been stolen from the premises.
Based on information obtained through investigation by Lamar County Sheriff’s Office detectives, it was found that Whorton of Red River County was the suspect in this burglary.
Whorton was arrested and later booked into the Lamar County Jail on Friday, Aug 21. He was later released on Saturday, Aug 22 on a $5,000 surety bond.
