A one-month-old baby’s life was saved after an Oklahoma police officer, who is also a Powderly Volunteer Fire Department member, rushed to the call.
“I would like to say to officer (Michael) Kelley ‘thank you,’” the infant’s mother Tara Taylor said. “I can’t thank him enough. He was definitely our hero that day and he will remain our hero.”
Taylor said she had just given her son medicine after feeding and burping Karson. She said she noticed Karson changing color and how he could not breathe.
“I hollered for my mom and she flipped him over and was hitting him on his back as I called 9-1-1 and ran out and yelled for help until the police or ambulance arrived,” she said. “My mom began CPR and didn’t stop until Officer (Michael) Kelley arrived.”
As Karson’s eyes began to roll back in his head, Taylor said she began grieving at the thought of her son’s unresponsiveness.
“I knew I had lost my baby,” she said, “and this was it.”
Taylor said her family will forever look upon Kelley as a true hero.
“We would like to thank the police officers for everything they do,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine this world without them. We look forward to always seeing Officer Kelley and him being there for Karson birthdays, school events, etc.”
