State inspectors from the Texas Department of License and Regulation have advised Fannin County officials that the Fannin County Courthouse creates an “Imminent Danger,” according to the press release.
On Aug. 10, 2023, the building was inspected for construction issues at the county’s request.
Solutions offered and considered included (1) vacating the building, or (2) maintaining a fire watch while the building is occupied, until the problems are corrected.
A fire watch has been implemented; use of the courthouse may be impacted.
“An investigation is underway to determine ultimate responsibility for the faulty construction work,” said county officials. “Multiple parties were involved including the architects, engineers, and contractors. We can and will do better in the future. Public safety is our primary concern.”
