Carl Edwin Yost was born to Harvey and Elizabeth (Holdeman) Yost, May 18, 1933, at Greensburg, Kansas. He peacefully passed to his reward on August 30, 2024, at his home. Death was due to a head injury following a fall.
Dad grew up with ten siblings on the family farm south of Greensburg. He attended Lone Star Country School through the ninth grade. After he gave his heart to the Lord, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on April 21, 1950, by Minister Glenn Litwiller, at Greensburg, Kansas. He was faithful to the end.
On October 4, 1953, Carl married Lavada J. Nichols, who was his loving companion for over seventy years. Shortly after marrying, they went to serve for two years in a 1W unit in Topeka, Kansas, at a hospital where he was a cook.
They returned to the family farm, laboring together, raising cattle and tilling the soil. God blessed this union with three children: Jerry, Cynthia, and Kenneth.
In 1980, they joined their children in the new congregation settlement at Detroit, Texas. In February 1987, Dad was ordained to the deaconry by Minister Harry Wenger. He faithfully fulfilled his calling.
Dad was a friend to all, especially his neighbors and those less fortunate. He sought to lighten their load. He had a lifelong interest in raising cattle. In later years, he enjoyed restoring tractors and maintaining his friendships in his neighborhood.
Their oldest son, Jerry, was taken suddenly in an accident in 1985, and a few years later a grandson, Steven, in 1998. He accepted these disappointments in his own quiet way.
Left to treasure his memory are daughter, Cynthia and Wayne Schrock; son, Kenneth and Bonnie, all from Detroit; daughter-in-law Sondra and husband, Wade Holdeman of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, 12 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; sister, Carrol Dirks, Rich Hill, Missouri; sister-in-law, Wanda Litwiller, Ithaca, Michigan; brother-in-law, Galen Nichols and wife Shirley, Greensburg, Kansas; sister-in-law, Shirley Nichols, Gentry, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Glenda Nichols, Greensburg, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son, grandson, parents, parents-in-law, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, 12 brothers-in-law, and 4 sisters-in-law.
