A Delta County man is behind bars after Deputies served a Felony Burglary of a Habitation warrant on 20-year old Demetrius Kanta Williams, finding multiple items within the home including a stolen electronic heart machine reported stolen last month.
On Sept. 29, Deputies with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office served the warrant on Williams at an apartment in Cooper.
During the arrest, multiple items were recovered leading to the clearance of six vehicle burglaries.
“One of those burglaries occurred on Sept. 18 where a medically needed Heart Mate Thoratec Device was stolen from a vehicle. This was a backup device needed to sustain the victim’s heart going in case his other device failed,” said Delta County Sheriff Charla Singleton.
This device is valued at over $8,000 and has been returned to the victim.
Also recovered were credit and debit cards and other items tying him to a string of other thefts.
“We are continuing to look through items recovered and we are trying to determine if these items can be tied to any other burglaries in the area.”
Williams was arrested and charged with 1 charge of 2nd Degree Felony Burglary of a Habitation, 1 charge of 3rd Degree Felony for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Credit Card Information with 5 or More Cards. 1 charge of State Jail Felony for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Credit Card Information, 1 charge of State Jail Felony for Theft of Property of over $2,500 and less than $30,000, 4 charges of Misdemeanor A, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and 1 charge of Misdemeanor A for Criminal Trespass of a Habitation.
He is currently being held at the Delta County Jail on a total bond of $77,000 for all the above cases.
“Through the investigation and subsequent information gathered from victims, it was determined that these burglaries were committed on vehicles that were left unlocked. We urge everyone to protect themselves by always locking your vehicles and never leaving any valuables in them.”
