“It’s been a rough year since COVID hit us, and Kroger has gone above and beyond to help us look after our kids,” said Crockett secretary Cecilia Lester.
The local Kroger store understands just how vital the Care Closet is for kids and their families. With that, they make sure to look at what they can set aside to donate during any time of the year.
“We were giving food packets out to kids when the school closed for coronavirus, and really we haven’t stopped,” said Lester. “But because of the pandemic, if it wasn’t for this last donation, I didn’t know how we would have been able to be prepared enough to help our families.”
Jessica Martin, Leanne Temples, David Thomas, David Diaz, Skylar Shepherd, and Stephanie Freelen are the Kroger team Lester attributes much of her gratitude towards.
“They are always doing something to help me out, which is why I encourage people to support them with their business because they do give back to our community,” said Lester.
Helping Lester kick-start the school year, Kroger donated 600 school supply boxes, which will be distributed to all Crockett Elementary School students on campus with leftovers to be given out as needed.
Last fall, they donated over 600 boxes of food, which Lester said was used to supplement the food delivered to PISD kids during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Looking forward to the upcoming school year, Lester said they are still in need of donations for students.
“We need it all,” she said, from toiletries to laundry soaps, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, and gently used clothes.
