The Roxton Friends of Chaparral Rails to Trails are excited for their upcoming ‘Poker Run’ event that will be a day of family fun in the tiny town Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Michael Bush said the organization is now on the tail end of their fundraising efforts as they prepare to hit the $25,000 required from a grant secured through TxDOT.
“We have been fundraising for a little over a year now and we have between six and seven thousand left to reach our required goal,” Bush said.
The Poker Run will cost $10 to participate, and you can walk, run or bike ride to each stop along the 10-mile portion of the track.
“We will have a cash prize of $100 for the best hand, and also a consolation prize with whoever gets the worst hand of the day,” he added.
Sign on will begin at 8 a.m. that morning with the event starting at 9 a.m., then once competitors make it back over the line they can indulge in a burger basket for $6.
“It will be a fun family day in Roxton,” he said, “both museums will be open on the day in town as well.”
The event will start at the Roxton Community Center on Harrison Ave in Roxton.
