A police officer, a family man and a friend – all describe the man Paris lost Saturday.
Paris Police Officer Robert Milton passed away Saturday, leaving behind his family and friends. North Lamar ISD Police Chief Mike Boaz has known Milton since fifth grade and became friends “right away and stayed friends throughout our lives.”
Boaz said Milton has always been a family man and loved his family dearly. Milton retired from Paris Police Department after serving more than 27 years. With Paris Police Department, Milton began his career volunteering with the Paris Police Reserve in May 1990 and hired by the department in February 1991.
Milton became a school resource officer before Boaz and always spoke to the students with respect and guidance. He moved to Paris ISD as one of the first SROs for the district in 1995.
“After I became a school police officer, he definitely taught me that speaking to students about doing what is right might just change their life in a positive way,” he said.
Milton returned to uniform patrol and was promoted to shift sergeant in September 2015.
“His love for the Washington Redskins always made for some very interesting conversations,” he said. “Robert always gave all of the other officers fits about being Dallas Cowboys fans. Since he was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan, he often referred to Dallas as the Cowgirls. I’ll just say that there might be a picture floating around somewhere of me in a Washington Jersey after a lost bet, with Robert standing behind me laughing the whole time.”
Funeral services for Milton are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday in Paris Junior High School’s Weger Auditorium.
“What I’ll miss most about Robert is his smile and his kindness,” Boaz said. “He definitely had a way about him that spoke volumes to many people. I’m just glad I had his influence in my life. I will miss my friend.”
