Despite a cloudy forecast, visitors came from all over the world, including Japan, Russia, England, Ireland, India, Italy, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, and Germany, to witness the Solar Eclipse on Sunday.
And, it did not disappoint.
“Such a neat experience, I’m so glad the clouds cleared and we were able to see! The street lights came on, and it was so calm when it got dark,” said Britnee online.
Amber Nietupski said, “The coolest things I think I ever witnessed.”
At the Love Civic Center, the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce had a map of the world displayed for guests to mark where they had traveled from.
“We had lunch at 107 and met two men that were traveling from Rome,” said Lindsey Wright.
Gayle Collard said, “We had a gentleman stay with us from Barcelona.”
With events being held all over Lamar County, it is estimated that several thousand watched the historic event at the Love Civic Center.
“The day turned out great for those that chose to come to Paris,” said Lamar County Chamber of Commerce President, Paul Allen. “There were so many that decided on the day of to come here.”
Paris was in the path of totality for the eclipse which lasted a total of 4 mins and 3 seconds.
The next total solar eclipse to fall anywhere on the lower 48 United States won’t occur until 2044 but Paris won’t be in the path of totality for that eclipse.
In fact, Paris won’t be in the path of totality for another total solar eclipse in the next 100+ years.
