Fannin County residents will soon be able to ‘beat the heat’ at a brand new splash pad set to be built in Powder Creek Park.

The City of Bonham and the Bonham Economic Development Co-Op have been working on the project for over two years and now have the funding to move forward.

“We don’t have anything like this in our area for our children and we are very excited to get started,” said Bonham City Councilman Ward 1 Tony Rodriguez.

The splash pad is estimated to be roughly 25ft by 40ft and feature cannons, buckets that drop water, misting jets and more that will provide endless hours of fun for the entire family.

“We will be installing security cameras that will be monitored by the Bonham Police Department, plenty of lighting and will also have a push-to-start system to preserve water,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez explained there will a button patrons can press to start the water features which will last for 15-minutes before needing to be pressed again, therefore, saving water when the splash pad isn’t being used.

The splash pad will be open to the public and FREE which access for the disabled.

“This is all about the children and we want every child in Fannin County to enjoy this feature,” Rodriguez said. “We have done a lot of research to make it friendly to children with disabilities.”

While there isn’t currently an opening date, Rodriguez said they plan to get started as soon as possible and once they do break ground it shouldn’t take more than four weeks.

“We had hoped to start on June 1st but the weather hasn’t permitted us to do so,” he explained. “We don’t want to tear up the park while trying to build this which would, in turn, cost us more money.”

Rodriguez said they are still taking donations to go towards the splash pad and will do so until the completion of the project.

“Any more donations we get will only help us to add more features to the area like more picnic tables, making the splash pad itself bigger, etc. We also want to thank all of those who have donated so far to get this project off the ground,” said Rodriguez.

If you wish to donate, visit Bonham CIty Hall and mentioned the donation is for the splash pad.
