Grab a comfortable lawn chair, turn out the lights and look up as the best meteor shower of the year – the Perseids – will hit its peak through the night sky Friday and Saturday.
The best meteor shower of the summer will share the spotlight with this year’s final supermoon, peaking Aug. 12-13.
This year’s best meteor shower for the northern hemisphere, the annual Perseids, began its move on July 17 lasting until Aug. 24, but its most active nights are coming up.
During its peak this weekend, observers will witness anywhere from 60-100 meteors in an hour. However, alongside this year’s last supermoon, the moon will wash out some of the dimmer meteors.
This looking to view the upcoming meteor shower, the best viewing time will be shortly after midnight, Saturday morning, away from light pollution, and look north, away from the supermoon’s light.
