North Lamar High School’s Panther Band is marching its way to the Texas UIL State Marching Band Competition, marking an impressive milestone for the band. On November 13 at 8:00 a.m., they will be the first of 27 bands to take the field at the Alamodome in San Antonio, presenting their show titled El Toreador, a performance inspired by Spanish bullfighting themes.
This appearance will be the band’s 11th time competing at the state level. Band Director Austin Snow shared his excitement, saying, “We are very proud of the North Lamar Panther Band as they make their 11th appearance in the UIL Texas State Marching Band Competition. Our show is entitled El Toreador and has been a lot of fun to put on the field.”
Leading off the competition brings unique challenges for the Panther Band, as they aim to make a strong first impression on the judges and set the standard for bands that follow. “We get to open the competition as the first band of the day,” Snow continued. “This comes with some challenges. We will have to set the bar high to stand out in a field of 27 bands from around the state.”
North Lamar’s journey to state is a testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication of its band members and instructors. The community is rallying behind the Panther Band as they prepare for their performance on one of Texas’s biggest stages. Students, parents, and supporters are encouraged to attend or tune in to cheer on the Panther Band as they represent North Lamar High School and bring their Spanish-inspired performance to life.
