Netflix is cracking down on password-sharing with a new paid-password sharing program set to launch globally by the end of June.
Under the new policy, Netflix subscribers with a standard or premium account can add an “extra member” at an extra cost.
If the streaming service matches the Canadian change, users can expect to pay around $6 per person with the ability to add two additional users.
Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain already saw their Netflix uses become subject to the new paid sharing policy in February.
In its quarter one earnings report, the streaming giant noted it expects a “cancel reaction” from users when it announces the news, but that users tent to reactivate their accounts.
Meanwhile, Netflix announced earlier this week that it is shutting down the DVD-by-mail service that it launched the company a quarter-century ago.
The service boasted more than 16 million U.S. subscribers but has been steadily dwindling during the past decade and generated just $145.7 million in revenue last year.
