Micah Luke Jones, MB(ASCP), CPhT, of Houston, TX, took his final flight to his heavenly destination and joined his Lord and Savior on November 27th, 2024.
Micah was born on September 4th, 2001 to parents David Lee Jones and Angela “Angie” Jean Jones. He was born the youngest of five children, but he was by far the most ambitious one. Micah’s determination and passion for knowledge were the driving forces behind everything he did.
When Micah was the third sibling in his family to be diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, the trajectory of his entire life changed at the age of 16. He became passionate about diabetes research, and he made it his mission in life to do medical research in hopes of finding a cure to this relentless disease for the sake of his brothers. He stayed laser focused on his studies and obtained a Bachelor’s in Molecular Genetic Technology from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He went on to work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he was actively working towards his next goal of earning a PhD tailored to diabetes research to further him towards his goal. It was his greatest desire to discover a cure for diabetes, to alleviate the struggles of his brothers and others facing the same diagnosis.
Micah was the type of person who made connections with others easily. He had friends everywhere he went and if someone else didn’t have a friend, Micah would find one for them. He made an effort to foster his relationships with others and he loved others courageously. Micah’s quick-witted sense of humor brought happiness and laughter to all, and he had endless jokes for days. He was unapologetically himself and he stayed true to his values. He served the Lord faithfully from a young age, and he truly believed in God’s purpose for his life.
Micah was a man of many hobbies and he pursued all of his interests with equal enthusiasm, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and being the best “Uncle Micah” to his niece and nephews. He loved working in the shop with his father, brothers, and friends on all manner of hazardous projects, including cars, dirt-bikes and go-karts. His passion for aeronautics was expansive and he enjoyed working towards his private pilot license, as well as flying radio-controlled aerobatic aircrafts, and brainstorming for improvements to the family’s Cozy III, a homebuilt experiential airplane. No matter the hobby, he found a way to include family and friends.
Micah was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Harold A. Jones and Kenneth Wayne Grigsby, his grandmother E. LaVern Stroup Jones, and joined in death by his father, David Lee Jones.
Micah is survived by his mother, Angela “Angie” Jean Jones, his grandmother, Ruby Cobb Grigsby, his siblings, Aaron (Kaylyn) Jones, Sarah (Thomas) Jones Herndon, Seth Jones, Noah Jones, and his nephews and niece, Austin Lee Jones, Leland James Herndon, Malachi David Alexander Herndon, and Adaline Kate Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations in Micah’s honor to the Miami Diabetes Research Institute, which was an organization that he believed in strongly.
