The Commissioners Court issued the order on Oct. 14 prohibiting outdoor burning due to ongoing drought conditions within the county.
The Texas A&M Forest Service reported moderate fire dangers on Wednesday, Oct. 19, and forecasts a moderate risk today. However, the fire dangers forecast for Friday is increased to high and very high on Saturday.
Per the order, all outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated area of Lamar County for 10 days form the date of adoption of this order (Oct. 10), unless the restrictions are terminated earlier based on a determination made by the Texas Forest Service or Lamar County Commissioners’ Court.
Violating the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
