To help other spread holiday cheer to those in need, Lamar County Human Resource Council/Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to deliver meals on Christmas Eve.
Shelly Braziel, Executive Director of the Lamar County Human Resources Council, said volunteers of all ages are welcome to help spread cheer.
“My kids and many of our staff and board member’s kids volunteer at this event each year,” she said. “It’s something you and your family won’t soon forget.”
Volunteers who sign up will be given a time slot to arrive at the kitchen, and then given the meals already packaged and ready to deliver. They will also be given a list of addresses for delivery.
“That’s it. It’s that simple,” Braziel said. “Volunteers don’t even need to return to our kitchen once they’re done.”
Braziel thanked Pittin’ & Grillin’ Mobile Smokehouse for helping the organization provide hot Christmas dinners to Lamar County Meals on Wheels recipients on Christmas Eve.
“For many, they wouldn’t be eating a Christmas meal if not for this program, which is why it is so important,” she said. “Plus, most of our clients will spend Christmas alone, so volunteers showing up means the world to them.”
The last two years, LCHRC’s Christmas Eve Meal service was suspended due to COVID.
“In the past, we have had a huge turn-out of volunteers, so many that most have only had to deliver 3-5 meals, getting done in under an hour,” Braziel said.
The organization will offer volunteers coffee and cookies, and also invite volunteers to dress in fun Christmas wear.
“Santa hats are encouraged!”
“We’d like to thank all our volunteers in advance, including our staff and board who will spend their Christmas Eve feeding our clients,” Braziel said. “And thank you to Scott Branch and the Pittin’ & Grillin’ family. We couldn’t do this without you.”
To sign up to deliver meals on Christmas Eve, email LCHRC at hrctexas.ed@gmail.com or call LCHRC’s office at 903-784-2580.
