It was a packed room at Magel’s Grill on Wednesday morning as Governor Greg Abbott visited Paris, Texas, in support of Chris Spencer, candidate for Texas House of Representatives – District 1.
“One thing all of us have to be working on together is to make sure we build safe communities, strong communities, and to also build a pathway for future generations,” said Abbott, referring to a young boy in the audience. “To make sure that he is going to inherit the same Texas that we inherited. This is why it is so important that we send Chris Spencer to the Texas Legislature.”
In his support for Spencer, Abbott called out current District 1 House Representative, Gary Van Deaver, for “voting time and time again with Democrats as opposed to Republicans.”
“You’re seeking to elect a person who shares your values, promotes your values and you got to know, the fact of the matter is, the current representative for this house district, he says one thing here and goes to Austin, Texas and does another thing. And the fact of the matter is, you’re voting in a republican primary. So, you cast your vote, which is incredibly valuable, only to see that vote eroded and contradicted from your values, when Gary Van Deaver casts a vote in Austin, Texas.”
During his 30-minute speech, Abbott talked about the “Biden economy” and how well Texas’ economy is doing, as well as the current border crisis — both the southern border with illegal immigrants and all other borders around Texas with the “woke left agenda.”
“We got a problem coming across the border in the state of Texas and I’m not talking about the southern border. We got another problem and that is the woke left agenda and there is no wall that can be built to stop the woke left agenda,” said Abbott. “But, it does not mean we cannot fight back against that left woke agenda.”
Sharing the story of Riley Gaines, a former competitive swimmer who has campaigned against the participation of trans women in women’s sports, Abbott vocalized how “outrageous and wrong” it was and why he worked with Gaines to sign a law saying “no men in women’s sports.”
The Governor also spoke on how some school districts are educating families on how students can change their gender, posing the question, “why are they spending time on changing genders when they are not spending enough time on educating our kids?”
“One thing that Chris agrees with me on, among other things, is that we will use and fund our schools to educate our kids, not to indoctrinate our kids. When it comes to fiscal responsibility, you need someone who is fiscally responsible, who is going to be very tight-fisted when it comes to spending your money but also a lot freer when it comes to cutting your taxes and that is exactly what Chris Spencer will do,” said Abbott.
