Generous people from near and far came together to give five-year old Tobi Gonzales and his family a weekend in Hochatown, Oklahoma, they always remember after the courageous young boy returned home on hospice.
In June 2022, Tobi was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and spent the next year going through chemotherapy. Sadly, last year, doctors discovered the cancer had returned and while they aggressively went after the cancer, his tiny body didn’t respond as hoped and he returned home on hospice.
Wanting to give Tobi and his family a “dream vacation,” Lamar County Adopt A Cop President and Reno Council Member Amanda Willows, who has helped the family since learning of Tobi’s diagnosis, reached out to the community for help.
“Words can’t express how much we appreciate everyone who came together to help Sgt. Tobi and his family have a special weekend together in Hochatown. To the gentleman who donated the cabin and food (anonymous), God bless you and thank you for this very special gift,” said Willows.
While the family doesn’t know exactly how much time they have left with Tobi, each day he is getting weaker and fungal pneumonia has taken over his lungs.
In a heartbreaking Facebook post on Sunday, his mother Jacquelynn Jensen shared they had to tell Tobi’s siblings that “Tobi will be going to Heaven.”
“Matt sat Rhyker and Ridley down and told them (limited details) but explained that Tobi will be going to heaven and that we don’t know how much longer we have with him. They didn’t take it well. I came inside and held my babies and explained it. They’re heartbroken and not doing ok. Please pray for their comfort because my momma heart is broken. How do you tell your children their best friend is dying. I’m not ok.”
While the family has enough to worry about, Willows said they will need help in covering the costs of the funeral service.
A GoFundMe for the family has been shared online with the hopes to raise enough money so the family doesn’t have to worry about paying for his funeral.
