Johnnie Dale Housley passed on August 30, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born to Joe and Lela Basham on July 23, 1939, in Lamar County, Texas, and spent time living in California, Colorado, and Georgia. She is survived by her daughter, Tammie, her son-in-law Ted, her three grandchildren: Julie, Jennifer, and Jeffery and their spouses, and her nine great-grandchildren: Emma, Nora, Kelsey, Owen, Jadyn, Camden, Emery, Eden, and Briar.
Johnnie was a woman who loved the time she spent with those who were important to her. Her most treasured memories were those spent with her two children, Tammie and Billy. Through her years as a preschool teacher, her time spent with ladies from church and longtime friends and mirrored in the gallery wall of family photos in her apartment; she built a large group of people who cared for her through every season of life.
In fact, her strongest legacy is what she left behind with those very people. Her sweet tooth was passed through her daughter, her granddaughters, and even her great grandchildren. Her love of reading stories, crocheting and bright yellow sunflowers is carried through these generations as well.
In the words of Andy Stanley, “Your greatest contribution to the kingdom of God [or the world] may not be something you do, but someone you raise.” If her contributions are measured only through the people who survive her and whose lives intersected with hers, then heaven can expect a renewed abundance of love, gentleness, kindness, patience, faithfulness, peacefulness, goodness, and joy.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home made burial in Lake Creek Cemetery.
