Chisum FFA Chapter members recently exhibited their commercial steers at Houston Livestock Show.
“Kids have to learn how to talk to people, learn about Beef Cattle and Agriculture as a whole and how if effects their lives and the lives of other, develop interview skills for an intense interview that can range from their steers to anything in Agriculture,” said Ag science teacher/FFA Advisor Matt Preston.
They also complete calculations about all aspects of their project and if they’ll make a profit or not and they have to know retail and wholesale cuts of meat and be able to identify them.
“All of our kids did a great job and had lots of cattle grade Choice or Prime and we’re still waiting on Premium Point totals to come from Houston but are confident they’ll all do great on those as well.”
“These young men and women have spent countless hours preparing for this year’s event and learning valuable real world applications of the cattle and ranching industry,” said Chisum online. “Chisum ISD couldn’t be more proud of these young men and women for doing what they love.”
