On July 24, Officers were dispatched to meet a victim in the 2500 block of Bonham St. The victim said he had been assaulted by a white male named “Billy”. While enroute to the incident a Lamar County Deputy made contact with Billy Wayne Gray (46) in the 2100 block of Bonham St. Paris Police officers arrived and took control of Gray, who was identified as the suspect. The victim said he had been at the park all day and that Gray had also been at the park. The victim said their only contact was when Gray asked for a cigarette. The victim did not have one. Later, the victim had fallen asleep on a park bench at about 9PM and had awakened to Gray striking him in his head and mouth with his fist and telling him he would kill him. Gray also took the victim’s cane which he used to strike the victim in the back and head. The victim got away from Gray and got into his vehicle where he called police. The victim had multiple visible injuries including tooth loss. Gray had marks on his hands indicative of assaulting someone. Gray was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Felony. He was booked without incident.
