Sulphur Springs Police department found a deceased man in a public restroom. The man has since been identified as Travers McElroy of Jackson, Mississippi, an escaped prisoner from Jackson, Mississippi, who was being held on murder charges.
At about 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 7, officers responded to the Pacific Park restroom in reference to a welfare check on an individual who had been in the restroom “for a long period of time.”
Once making entry to the restroom, officers found the deceased individual who had no form of identification. The deceased was sent to the Dallas Medical Examiner to identify.
“The Medical Examiner was able to identify the deceased by fingerprints as Travers McElroy,” Sulphur Springs Police Department shared in a press release earlier today.
Police said the cause of death is currently unknown, but expect no foul play at this time.
Reportedly, McElroy escaped alongside another – who has since been recaptured – from prison at about 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
According to Jackson Police Department in Mississippi, 34-year-old McElroy was taken into custody for the shooting death of 21-year-old Rakyla Brown at about 2:30 p.m. on May 19, 2021.
