Prairiland High School’s Beta took home 33 state titles during the Beta state competition this past weekend after competing against school from all over the state of Texas.
The state competition was at the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine from Feb. 3-4. All students who participated during the state-win will advance to the national convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in June.
Among the wins are: Ty Hostetler got second in 12th grade Biomedical Health Science; Jayden Whitaker got second in 9th grade Biomedical Health Science; Hunter Vaughn got first place in 11th grade French; Lexi Hutson got third place in 10th grade Language Arts; Libby Stowell got 11th in Language Arts and fourth in Division II Creative Writing; Julianna Hamill got first place in 12th grade Language Arts; Emily Stowell got fifth place in 9th grade Language Arts; Alanna Riney got fifth in 11th grade Math; Natalie Cowles got third in Division I Poetry; the Quiz Bowl team took home second place (Ty Hostetler, Jameson Flatt, Blake Lewis, Abel O’Neal, and Ashton McQueen as their coach); Keaton Kinabrew got first place in 9th Grade Science; Fischer Morrison got second in 10th grade Social Studies; Carson Cox got third place in 11th grade Social Studies; Jameson Flatt got third place in 12th grade Social Studies; Maribel Banda got second in 10th Grade Spanish; and Andrea Moreno got first in 12th grade Spanish.
Members of the club went on to win 12 State Art Awards: Addison Brown got second place in Apparel Design and first place in Division II Mixed Media; Libby Stowell got third place in Division 2 Photography; Taren McGee got first place in Division II Drawing; Julianna Hamill got fourth place in Division II Fiber Arts; Ian McClain got first place in Division II Hand Drawn on Anime; as a club, Prairiland Beta received second place in Portfolio; Randee Maull got second place in Division II Quilling; Emilee Stowell got second in Division I Recyclable Art; Ashlynn Grayson and Emmi McFadden got first in Division II Recyclable Art; and Meagan Martinez got fourth and three-dimensional design; and Prairiland Beta club took second in two-dimensional design.
In the Performing Arts, Skits, and Theater Productions competition: Prairiland Beta received first place in Group Talent; second in Living Literature; second in Show Choir; second in Campaign Skit; and fourth in Character Skit. Five talented singers (Addison Brown, Grant Jordan, Chloe VanDeaver, Carsen Cox, and McKenna Guest) received golden tickets for their singing talent to perform in the opening production at nationals.
The high school sponsors that journeyed and coached the kids on this state adventure include Shawonna Rhoades, Dustin and Wendy May, Crystal Folse, Vickie Chapman, Lance Westbrook, Misty Smith, Caitlyn Folse, Lela Kelley, and Nathanial Bush. Prairiland Beta Club is supported wholeheartedly by their administration, community, parents, and school board through long practices, glitter and all.
