On July 3, Officers responded to the 2500 block of North Main Street in reference to a security check. Officers were advised that a male subject had been standing near the gas pumps yelling for approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the subject, who consented to a search of his person. During the search, officers located methamphetamine in the subject’s pocket. The subject was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, Less Than One Gram, a State Jail Felony.
On July 4, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 4500 block of NE Loop 286 for speeding. Officers made contact with the driver and two passengers. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, during which officers located a THC vape pen in the area where the male passenger had been seated, as well as alcohol and nicotine vape devices in the area occupied by the 17-year-old female passenger. The driver was arrested for Reckless Driving, a Class B Misdemeanor. The male passenger was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, Less Than One Gram, a State Jail Felony. The female passenger was arrested for Minor in Possession of Tobacco and Minor in Possession of Alcohol, both Class C Misdemeanors.
On July 4, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of NE Loop 286 for making an illegal U-turn. Officers made contact with the driver, who advised that he did not possess a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance. During an inventory of the vehicle prior to a no-insurance tow, officers located methamphetamine in the vehicle’s center console. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, One Gram or More but Less Than Four Grams, a Third-Degree Felony.
On July 5, Officers responded to the 500 block of Deshong Drive in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle idling in the roadway and a male subject grabbing a female subject by the shirt. During the investigation, the male subject was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. A criminal history check revealed a prior DWI conviction, enhancing the charge to Driving While Intoxicated – Second Offense, a Class A Misdemeanor. During a subsequent search at the Paris Municipal Jail, officers discovered cocaine concealed in the subject’s underwear. The subject was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance or Prohibited Item in a Correctional Facility, a Third-Degree Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, Less Than One Gram, a State Jail Felony.
On July 4, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Graham Street for failure to signal a turn. Officers made contact with the male driver and a female passenger. The driver was found to have an outstanding Lamar County traffic warrant and was taken into custody. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, during which officers located methamphetamine within reach of both occupants. Both subjects were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, One Gram or More but Less Than Four Grams, a Third-Degree Felony.
On July 5, Officers responded to the 1300 block of Lamar Avenue in reference to a Burglary of a Business. Upon arrival, officers discovered that unknown suspect(s) had forcibly entered the business and stolen multiple items. The investigation is ongoing.
During this reporting period, officers conducted 56 traffic stops, made 17 adult arrests, and responded to 228 calls for service.
