Nine graduating students from Paris Junior College’s Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology (TIJT) presented their Wizard of Oz-themed Capstone projects to a panel of distinguished jewelry industry professionals during a formal review held this week.
The capstone experience, which began in the Fall 2025 semester, challenged students to design and create original jewelry pieces inspired by the classic story while refining advanced technical and artistic skills. Throughout the year, students participated in three master classes and multiple review sessions led by industry professionals who provided mentorship and feedback throughout the creative process.
Five respected representatives from the jewelry industry evaluated the completed projects based on craftsmanship, creativity, design, and execution.
Natalie Lasko of Dallas, Texas, earned the competition’s top honor for her 14-karat yellow gold and emerald ring inspired by the Emerald City and the hallway Dorothy travels through on her way to meet the Wizard. Her piece was recognized for its exceptional artistry, technical excellence, and creative interpretation of the theme.
Logan Nye of Boise, Idaho, received Honorable Mention for his brooch, “Torainbow Two-Step,” which showcased originality and outstanding craftsmanship.
Following the formal review, the Jewelry Technology Department welcomed community members, alumni, and jewelry industry guests to an open showcase celebrating the students’ accomplishments and providing visitors an opportunity to view the capstone collection.
“The Capstone Project represents the culmination of our students’ education and serves as a demonstration of the craftsmanship, creativity, and professionalism they have developed during their time at Paris Junior College,” said TIJT Program Coordinator Serina Omori. “We are proud of each student and grateful to our industry partners who continue to invest in the next generation of jewelry professionals.”
The Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology at Paris Junior College is nationally recognized for preparing students for successful careers in jewelry design, manufacturing, repair, and watchmaking through hands-on instruction and strong partnerships with the jewelry industry.
