James Copeland, Jr., 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 6, 2026, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
James was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on September 26, 1966. At just two years old, he moved to Texas with his family. Texas became his lifelong home. James was a very skilled welder and construction worker. He took great pride in his hands-on work. Outside of work, James loved the outdoors. He truly enjoyed horses and farming. Along his life’s journey, James made many wonderful friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Jim did not want a traditional service. Instead, his sisters are holding a celebration of life to honor him. It will take place on June 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The gathering will be held at his sister Barbara’s home in Talco, Texas. Please contact the family directly for directions and the street address. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Lee Copeland of Paris, Texas.
He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his five sisters: Linda Estes of Paris, Texas; Jamie Subuh of Wichita, Kansas; Cathy Fryar of Wichita, Kansas; Barbara Guth of Talco, Texas; and Trish Holtz of Wichita, Kansas.
He also leaves behind his three children and his grandchildren: son Matthew Copeland and wife Haley of La Porte, Texas, and their children Lincoln, Miya, Aurora, and Noellie; son James N. Copeland and wife Ashton of Winnie, Texas, and their children Aalyiah, Baylee, and Paityn; and daughter Madelyn Copeland of Paris, Texas, and her children Kenzie, Zoey, Kaden, and Hunter.
