The Honey Grove Police Department on Wednesday identified Julie Elizabeth Moran Ball as the victim in a homicide that occurred on Pecan Street on Jan. 31, 2026.
Officials also confirmed, Landon Sorrells Ball, who was found first by officials holding a knife and suffering from apparent self-inflicted injuries, was served two additional warrants on Feb. 3, 2026, whilst in the Fannin County Jail.
Ball, who was originally charged with Aggravated Assault, has now been charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Family Violence.
Each bond charge has a bond of $1.5 million.
According to reports, police were dispatched to the residence in the 500 block of Pecan Street on Jan. 31, 2026 at approximately 8:48 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers and medical personnel made entry into the residence to assist the caller, later identified as 45-year-old Landon Sorrells Ball.
Once inside the home, officers encountered Ball lying on a bed in a bedroom while holding a knife and suffering from apparent self-inflicted injuries.
Officers were able to safely gain control of the situation, at which time Ball was detained and received medical treatment from EMS.
After securing Ball, officers observed a deceased white female, later identified as Julie Elizabeth Moran Ball, lying on the floor inside the residence, showing no signs of life.
Julie Ball was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death.
Landon Ball was transported to TMC Denison for treatment of his injuries.
Upon his release from the hospital, he was transported to the Fannin County Jail by Honey Grove Police Department officers, where he was initially booked on an Aggravated Assault charge with bond set at $2,000,000.
An active investigation into the death was immediately launched.
The Texas Rangers were contacted to assist, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Based on information obtained through the investigation, this incident appears to be related to a domestic incident.
On February 3, 2026, two additional arrest warrants were obtained for Landon Ball for the charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Family Violence.
These warrants were served while Ball remained in custody at the Fannin County Jail and each has a bond of $1.5 million.
