Kroger is offering its 500,000 employees $100 each for getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
“As we move into a new phase of the pandemic, we’re increasing our investment to not only recognize our associates’ contributions but also encourage them to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as it becomes available to them to optimize their well-being, as well as the community’s,” Kroger’s Chief People Officer Tim Massa said in a Friday statement.
For those employees unable to get the vaccine, for medical or religious purposes, an educational health and safety course will be provided to them to receive the $100, according to the press release.
The grocery store will give the bonus to the Texas employees — alongside 34 other states — who receive the doses of the vaccine. Once they receive the vaccine, they will then show the Human Resources representative proof of inoculation.
