B. Edith Terry Bonner was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on October 1, 1938. Born to Ed (Edgar) and Geneva (Gene) Terry. Edith remembered milking dairy cattle as her dad, Ed Terry, was a dairy farmer. She remembered many activities at school she would ask permission to attend. Her dad would always approve of the activity, he would add, “Remember 3:30 am comes awfully early.” Gene, Edith’s mom was a seamstress, housekeeper, wife, mother, cook, and many other tasks as the societal time and life of a dairy farm would require. Edith learned from both her parents and passed the lesson on to others following her in life. She was born near the end of the Great Depression and soon to be at the start of the Second World War. For instance, razors were used first by her dad to shave with. Then they were passed on to other members of the family for their needs. Edith would say later about the razor use that sometimes “it just was not worth the effort”. Out of those needs of the time she became a source of food storage and many other savings of items needed in life.
Edith graduated from Snyder High school in 1956. For many years she would help/organize class reunions for Snyder. Both for her graduating class and the school alumni association. She went to college at Cameron University in Lawton, Ok. While there she was involved in a car crash that kept her in traction for some time recovering. After that she made the trek to Amarillo, TX where she lived until 1998. There she worked among other jobs as a counter person for airlines at the airport. She would work at the airport off and on for several years, but after meeting George Lacey and marrying him, she had a son, Brandt Lacey.
Edith worked a few jobs after she and George divorced some at Amarillo College and in transportation at West Texas State A&M. She then met Ishmael W. Bonner and married him in 1995. She retired shortly after marrying I.W. and they traveled for a little while. In 1998 they moved to Sumner, Tx to live. They still traveled and fished, continuing to make friends throughout the area.
Edith was a member of several women’s clubs and groups and Churches.
Edith (Ede) will be sorely missed and always loved.
